THE LANGUAGE OF LIGHT
Light and color are everything to us. They shape moods, trigger feelings, and create stories without words. Vincent van Gogh captured this idea perfectly:
There is no blue without yellow and without orange.
Colors never stand alone—they're always in conversation, pushing and pulling against each other.
James Turrell knows this better than anyone. His installations aren't just artworks; they're experiences. He uses light itself as his medium, transforming spaces into vibrant fields of shifting color. Turrell’s Skyspaces let us see how a single shade changes drastically, depending on the surrounding hues and lighting conditions—proving just how powerful context can be.
Josef Albers explored similar territory in his groundbreaking book, Interaction of Color. He famously said, "In visual perception a color is almost never seen as it really is—as it physically is." Like Turrell, Albers showed how colors play tricks on our eyes, revealing endless nuances and interactions that often defy expectations.
As artists, we constantly experiment with color and light, searching for combinations that resonate, evoke emotions, and surprise. Because, sure, there are millions of hues out there—but only a handful truly sing together.
